31 Mt. Gayley 9/03/01 13510' After sill, from Glacier Notch via the 3rd class SW ridge aka "The Yellow Brick Road", pretty casual.
30 Mt. Sill 9/03/01 14153' Climbed from Gayley camp via Glacier Notch & the North Couloir (4th class). Pretty straightforward, climbed in about 3.5 hours at a casual pace.
(failure) North Palisade 9/02/01 ~13800' Climbed the U-notch including a lot of 60 degree ice and a 10' section of vertical through the 'schrund. Went to slow, bailed when we thought we were a long way from the top when we were really 1 pitch from the top - wouldn't have made the peak either way.
29 North Peak 8/25/01 12242' 10 miles, 2500' of gain. Climbed the right hand couloir. 500-600' of 45 degree styro. 10' of 70-80 degree stuff at the bergschrund. Solo'd the whole deal, lots of fun. Knees feel pretty good but not 100%.
28 Long's Peak 7/6/01 14255' 15 miles, 5000' of gain. Hiked the Keyhole route. Lots of fun, very cool route!
(failure) Lone Pine Peak 6/23/01 10290' Wimped out of the North Ridge Route (III, 5.4) - despite the easy rating a very long ridge climb on which many parties get overnighted. After caching gear @ 9600' and scrambling up to the ridge top at ~10200 it didn't look so bar after all - we'll return to this climb soon - it looks awesome!
27 Unknown peak, Cordillera Urubamba, Peru 5/18/01 17300' 7 miles, 7000' gain. Climbed an unknown/unlabeled sub peak due to snow/avalanche conditions on the glaciers and slopes of the more difficult peaks. Fun climb, my knee hurt only a little on the way down.
26 Mt. Baldy (Mt. San Antonio) 4/14/01 10064' 9 miles, 3800' gain. San Diego Chapter snow checkoff and peak climb, lots of fun, sore knee, going to give it a 1 month or longer rest.
25 Villager Peak 4/8/01 5756' 25 miles, 9300' gain. Dayhike from Clark Dry Lake up to 6582, down the ridge to Rabbit and Villager and out. 20 hours total. Very sore knee at the end of it - uh oh.
24 Rabbit Peak 4/8/01 6640' 25 miles, 9300' gain. Dayhike from Clark Dry Lake up to 6582, down the ridge to Rabbit and Villager and out. 20 hours total. Very sore knee at the end of it - uh oh.
23 Peak 6582' (Dawn's Peak) 4/8/01 6582' 25 miles, 9300' gain. Dayhike from Clark Dry Lake up to 6582, down the ridge to Rabbit and Villager and out. 20 hours total. Very sore knee at the end of it - uh oh.
(failure) Mt Shasta 3/17-18/01 ~12,200' Bailed on day one at ~9500' due to being wet and cold amid high winds and driving snow and poor visibility. Tented @ the Sierra Club Cabin, started at 5AM day two. Up the Casaval Ridge to about 12,200 where we hit whiteout conditions and turned back. Windy but clear lower down, reasonably warm (~20F) up high.
20 Webo Peak 3/3/01 4173' 8 miles, 3400' gain. After a 2 hour ordeal of extracting a Bronco from the mud of Clark (not so) Dry Lake (dumbass driver), we punted on Peak 6582 and went up to Hellhole Flat. The ridge we went up ended at a peaklet that had on it, to our surprise, a register.
San Gorgonio 2/17/01 11499' Vivian Creek Trail - 15 miles, 5500' of gain. Broke trail from Vivian Creek Camp to Summit (6+ miles) through 2-4' of loosely consolidated powder. Only person to summit, last 3/4 mile along the summit plateau and ridge through 40-50 mph winds and heavy spindrift to near whiteout conditions. Got blown off my feet numerous times. Temperature at summit ~20F.
Mt. Baden Powell 2/04/01 9399' Vincent Gap up a Couloir to peak. ~5-6 miles, 3000' gain. Postholing to french technique over varying snow up to 40 degrees.
19 Stonewall Peak 1/28/01 5730' Paso Picacho campground -> peak. 4.4 miles, 850' gain. Mom's birthday hike, beautiful with 6" of fresh snow.
18 San Ysidro Mountain 1/27/01 6147' Visitor's center -> Hellhole Flat -> Peak. ~15 miles, 6000' of gain. Lots of brush, 4" of snow, cold and windy.
(failure) San Gorgonio 1/20/01 ~10000' Vivian Creek Trail -> High Creek (camped). High point was 10,000+, turned around early on day 2 due to 3'+ of fresh powder and no broken trail - very slow going. 10 miles, 4000' of gain.
San Jacinto 1/13/01 10804' Suicide Rock -> Deer Springs -> Summit -> Humber Park via Devil's Slide Trail. ~18 miles, ~5000' gain. Nice 2-3" dusting of snow.
17 Apache Peak 12/16/00 7567'
16 South Peak 12/16/00 7840'
15 Red Tahquitz Peak 12/16/00 8720' 16 miles, 3500' gain. Up Devil's Slide to Saddle Junction and then down ridge over Red Tahquitz toward Lake Hemmit.
14 Whale Peak 12/16/00 5369' 16 miles, 3000' of gain. Loop through Blair and Little Blair Valleys. Knee feels great.
(failure) San Ysidro Mtn 12/09/00 6147' 12 miles, 5000' of gain. Cross country from Borrego Springs Visitor Center to Hellhole Flats then up towards the ridge and peak. Defeated by poor route selection (too much brush), generally being slow and a short day.
13 Sawtooth Mtn 11/18/00 4684' 20 miles, 3000' of gain. North from McCain Valley across Cainbreak Wash and up to the saddle between Red Top and Sawtooth, then west to the peak. A little 3rd class on the summit. Knee got a little bit sore but basically ok.
12 Indianhead 10/28/00 3990' 12 miles, 2500' of gain. Cross country from the Borrego Springs Visitor Center, up the south ridge (3rd class), returned by dropping into Palm Canyon. Knee is slowly recovering.
11 Throop Peak 10/07/00 9138'
10 Mt. Baden Powell 10/07/00 9399' Standard trail. 9 miles, 3000' of gain. Still have a sore knee so nothing major.
9 Mt. Russell 09/23/00 14086' East Arete from the Russell/Carrillon saddle. 18 miles, 5400' of gain from Whitney Portal. The East Arete is a gorgeous and fun route - easy 3rd class and the exposure is not too severe, though the slog up the scree from Upper Boyscout lake to the Russell Carrillon saddle is heinous. 12 hours round trip.
8 Mt. Langley 09/05/00 14025' Old Army Pass. Very windy day (sustained 30mph, gusts to 60+ mph). 21 miles, 4100' of gain from Cottonwood Lakes trailhead. 10 hours round trip.
(failure) Mt. Sill 09/01/00 - 09/04/00 ~14100' North Fork Lone Pine Creek -> Palisade Glacier -> Glacier Notch -> North Couloir -> North Ridge. Had to bail about 50-100' shy of the summit due to temperature, time and lack of gear to climb 4th/5th class rock covered with ice. 25 miles and 5000' of gain round trip.
7 Mt. Whitney 08/20/00 14495' Mountaineers Route, ascended the first couloir from the Notch at the top of the Mountaineers Couloir rather than traverse the scree/snow to the West. This more direct route is faster and involves some 4th class moves but is not exposed, Carol Wong and I soloed this rather than use rope. 16 miles, 6200' of gain. 14 hours round trip - a very relaxed and pleasant pace.
6 Charlton Peak 08/12/00 10806'
5 Little Charlton Peak 08/12/00 10696'
4 Jepson Peak 08/12/00 11205'
San Gorgonio 08/12/00 11499' Jenk's Lake -> Dry Lake -> Summit -> Jepson Peak -> Little Charlton Peak -> Charlton Peak -> Dollar Saddle -> Jenk's Lake. 24 miles, 5400' of gain.

3 Cucamonga Peak 07/22/00 8859' Lytle Canyon to Icehouse Saddle to the summit. After my "Egyptian Diet" (lost 10 lbs in a week in Egypt), I was really out of condition and low on energy and this hike kicked my ass. 14 miles, 5000' of gain.
San Jacinto 06/24/00 10804' See 6/3/00 info
2 San Gorgonio 06/17/00 11499' Vivian Creek Trail. 14 miles, 5300'
